Vertiworks flexes its new Latex 700W’s muscles…
Bridport based Vertiworks recently acquired a new printer, it’s an HP Latex 700W. Colin Crabb gave HP the vote having considered other options around and determining that HP had taken white ink to the next level. HP’s white is just that. It has the density which justifies the ink casting itself as ‘white’ but that polar-white is not achieved by laying down piles to get the opacity needed. HP’s ink are among the cleanest around too. That was important to Vertiworks.
Colin and the team got to flex the new printer’s muscles recently when they were approached and asked to produce some bespoke labels. The client, ‘A Jar Of,’ hails from Droop in deepest Dorset and produces award-winning jams among other things. Vertiworks’ mission was to design and produce jar labels that did the jars’ contents justice. So, they did just that.
Using Metamark MD5 Clear Colin and the team contrived and produced a range of designs, including a seasonal variation, that flexed the new HP printer’s white ink capability. The labels looks like a complicated contour-cut jobs with isolated design elements allowing glimpses of the product the jars contain. They’re actually a single pieces of material and the white backing for the process colour elements is provided by the printer. The white is dense enough to do its job, but having no appreciable thickness, it doesn’t intrude.
Great result.
One of the labels produced needed to be applied to a jar with the application surface being a truncated cone. That took a bit of head-scratching the team admits but, once locked in, production was essentially a push button operation. Again the results is stunning.
The HP is a wide format printer but it speaks to the creative potential latent in hardware and owner that a relatively low volume label run can be produced and the client can get effects once the exclusive province of presses costing hundreds of thousands of pounds. In the hands of a company the leverages its creative potential to the full like Vertiworks, amazing things are possible.
Needless to say, Vertiworks will be using its new capability to the deliver innovative print across the whole swathe of its output. The company is growing, moving into new areas of specialisation and, above all, it’s keeping customers like A Jar Of, very happy.
