Look what’s just rolled up at Isle of Wight based Indigo Graphic…
Indigo Graphics is based near Cowes on the Isle of Wight and has a great looking website that distills the goods and services it offers to a really simple and easily digested essence. A meander through the site makes it pretty clear that the company casts itself in the role of a signs and graphics producer and, among its many competencies, you’ll find wrapping. The company doesn’t appear to be appealing directly for work on what you might call ‘the fringes,’ but that didn’t stop such work finding Indigo.
The call came from an events and experiential company, Beach Graphics. The job involved turning about forty reclaimed ‘oil drums’ or ‘barrels’ into branded pedestal bases. The idea was, the branded bases would tour planned locations, set up with parasols atop them, and serve as tables while the attending audience enjoyed the client’s product - a refreshing beer in this case.
Beach Graphics knew exactly what they wanted in terms of design, and so the data was supplied to Lee Skinner and the Indigo Graphics team to do their stuff. After the customary tweaking to scale and fit the design elements, Indigo’s Roland Eco-Solvent printer was loaded up with MetaWrap MD-X and print production began. The barrels were bright blue and so the branding needed be total coverage. Some of the subjects had a bit of battle-rash like dents and so on but, broadly speaking, were application-ready. You’d never know there’s a blue barrel under the MD-X Wrapping film.
Once laminated with MetaGuard MG-X, the print was cut to size and the hands-on bit could commence. Lee willingly admits that the first couple of barrels exercised the application team a bit. It looks like a simple enough surface but it has a quite a few deviations from flat in order that the structure is stiff when loaded with liquids. Once the team had a few done and hit a rhythm, the job went well.
The result is really attractive, no getting away from it. Seen from a more informed perspective though the barrels do a bit more than just promote a beer brand for an appreciative client. They also illustrate what’s possible when you put compliant materials and print technology in a room with some obviously expert creatives. They say anything’s possible and Indigo Graphics’ team would agree.
Keep an eye out for Indigo Graphics’ work when you’re out and about this summer. You can’t really miss it, or the crowd it’s sure to attract.
