Shipley based Smart Repair Systems, or SRS Automotive, knows a thing or two about vehicle body enhancement. The Team at SRS are among the UK’s leading Paint Protection Specialists and they’re not found wanting when wrap graphics are concerned. One of the company’s recent wrapping successes now has an alter-ego in the shape of a Scalextric Model immortalising the design…
You’d be forgiven for thinking that a fresh-from-the-showroom vehicle is going to be sporting a finish that’s as good as it gets. The team at Shipley based Smart Repair Systems wouldn’t necessarily agree. Any finish can be ‘corrected’ and improved they argue, and they’ve got a lot of evidence to back it up. People come from far and wide with their vehicles to have the SRS team do its stuff and that includes sending cars away under a layer of expertly applied Paint Protection Film - a big competency at SRS.
SRS’s wrapping skills are in demand too, As we recently reported, Academy Motorsport came looking for someone to design and apply the graphics for its 2020 race cars and SRS, who were looking for a team to associate with, came to an arrangement. The SRS team was engaged to provide a racing livery that really gave the already conspicuous racing Fords even more presence.
As we said at the time, the brief arrived looking about as close to a blank canvas as it’s possible to get. SRS Automotive’s Jeremy Robershaw delivered the creative input and worked the resulting design through to its practical completion. The design was, and is, stunning and very impactful. It’s centred on a motif that draws its inspiration from Ford’s iconic mustang stallion at full gallop. The horses are arranged in an layout that evokes Escher around the cars’ front quarters with each element being rendered in a different density.
Although it’s formed around one of the auto industry’s most recognisable logo-elements, the layout registers at first glance as something more resonant of urban camo. It’s an involving design though and tells its truth once the eye has lingered a few moment. It really demands attention.
It gets it too.
Scalextric, the iconic brand forever associated with slot-car racing, has immortalised the 2020 Academy Racing Mustangs in a brilliantly executed scale model of the real thing. Whether the miniaturised livery makes the Scalextric car any faster or better inclined to stay on the track is up for debate. The slot-car does give those who’re never likely to get behind the wheel of the real thing a shot at glory though. It looks sensational.
Design aside, neither Metamark or SRS got hands anywhere near the Scalextric car in production. The orignal full-size wraps were produced by SRS in MetaCast MDC. The Scalextric alter-egos, they’re the product of Scalextric’s own process. After a few excursions off the track, the materials that comprise the Scalextric car will ensure it bounces back for more. Paint Protection at this level is taking things a bit far.
When attention comes back to the MetaCast clad Mustangs though there’s a real car under those brilliant graphics. So, if you drive a modern example of American Muscle or something from its legacy era, rumble up to SRS and get it wrapped up in a layer of Paint Protection film or some sensational Jeremy Robertshaw designed graphics. The car will thank you for it.
