Sheffield based Dyson Signs used Metamark MD5-A to deliver an engaging and educational play experience to children in its locality. Design, print and application skill were all taken a bit further. Come and have a look around Curious Kids Town…
Curious Kids Town is a very different kind of indoor play experience for children. It combines education, imagination and so much creative stimulation that its little customers won’t realise they’re learning while burning off hours and bubbling down energy just having fun. Curious Kids Town is just that - a miniature town under one roof. It has businesses, shops and all the sources of inspiration a child needs to really get into character and act out real life roles.
Emphasising the importance of imagination based play, Curious Kids Town is very specifically designed to deliver immersive experiences to kids. Everything in it is scaled to fit a child’s perception of the world around. It’s manageable. It’s within reach. And it’s both colourful and stimulating.
Curious Kids Town arrived at Dyson Signs in the shape of one of the most unusual briefs the Sheffield based signs and graphic producer had ever had to respond to. Nothing like the proposed outcome existed outside the creative minds who thought the concept up. Nothing like it was there in the locality to ground the idea in reality. It’s was what you might call a work of brilliance and pure inventiveness on the parts of its two creators. Dyson Signs had first to exercises its own powers of imagination in order to deliver. And that’s just what the team did.
Working with a fabricated substrate structure, the Dyson Signs team surveyed, in miniature, what amounted to a whole high street full of shops and businesses. The survey was then used to inform the output of Dyson Signs’ designers who set to creating a range of facade décor for application to the standing set structure. The applied graphics depict the child-scale elements of the town and were printed on Metamark MD5-A.
Larger than life colour dominates brilliantly thanks to the MD-Class prints. Detail is reduced to a cartoon-like depiction that evokes much the same senses as a well illustrated children’s book. The printing and detail are exemplary and the applied results look nothing less than perfectly set in character. As the graphics went on, so the town grew and once complete the full impact really registers. It’s small enough for a child to experience and yet big enough to accommodate and exercise the most inventive and creative little minds.
Dyson Signs has delivered successfully and, if the number of repeat customers it attracts is any indication, so too has Curious Kids Town. Metamark MD5-A has arguably seen one of its most unusual applications too and who knows, perhaps somewhere there in the thick of the fun, is a next generations signs and graphics producer who’ll one day know exactly how to deliver a larger than life experience to little people with the capacity to soak it all up and learn while having the time of their lives.
