Applied decor is a growing specialisation for many sign and graphics production companies and Sheffield based Dyson Signs is among them…
The ability to print full colour imagery on very durable and attractive materials was never going to be content just doing jobs in one small sector. It’s a powerful medium and it’s finding it way into all kinds of areas of application that are rapidly carving themselves what most agree is a new market.
Sheffield based Dyson Signs, as the name suggests, casts itself in the role of a signmaker. Like others with design skills, print-production abilities and and installation reach though, its services are called upon to produce things that are anything but signs.
Dyson Signs has built itself a reputation locally, and further afield for its work in applied digital decor. The company has undertaken a wide variety of work and its clients are drawn from markets as diverse as education and leisure. Much of the work represents branding continuations realised through Décor. With the ability to produce wall coverings without the limits imposed by either repeating patterns on rolls or expensive origination costs, the Dyson team has be able to deliver its customers inventive, design-led solutions.
Dyson Signs décor work has even crossed the line into what might be referred to as functional décor. Panels of printed decorative elements that manage the uncomfortable environments that result when sounds echo off walls and ceilings have proved popular. The panels tame the echoic interiors and add a decorative function too.
The latest venue where Dyson Signs décor has appear is at Boeing’s Aircraft Parts Factory in Sheffield. The new factory is the US company’s first manufacturing facility in Europe and it makes more than 100 wing actuation parts for the 737 and 767 wing trailing edges. The facility offers over 6000 square metres of space and represents an investment of around £40M and offers skilled employment to around fifty people.
Murals printed on Metamark MD-WA contribute to the overall ambience of the new facility and turn otherwise blank expanses of walls into space transforming works that elevate the whole mood of the new facility.
