Dyson Signs has delivered transformational interiors to one of the world’s leading engineering and construction groups…

SNC Lavalin is among the world’s largest engineering and construction groups. The company recently completed the transformative acquisition of WS Atkins, itself one of the world’s most respected consultancies operating in the infrastructure, transportation and energy sectors. With around 50,000 employees comprising the combined workforce, the group is a true global player in its field. It also needs to provide a comfortable operating environment for its many employees.

Working for Principle Global, Sheffield-based Dyson Signs recently completed an interior refurbishment and rebranding programme at the group’s Epson Facility. Design was prescribed by the group’s corporate ID programme and the job represents the first in a series of planned works that will move the WS Atkins operations within the scope of SNC Lavalin’s identity.

Dyson Signs conducted detailed site surveys and provided a comprehensive package of decorative and functional components reflecting the SNC Lavalin identity.

Workspaces such a meeting rooms were provided with etch effect privacy measures that admits light, wayfinding lettering was applied to walls and pillars and ambience enhancing murals were installed in ‘welfare rooms’ within the office facility. The net effect is cohesive and very attractive and the new decor has been well received.

The etch effect components were created using Metamark etch effect films. The design provides a useful degree of privacy for room’s occupants without fully closing down the view in or out, or impairing light to a significant extent. The attractive check or squares design was cut and applied.

Photo-murals depicting restful woodland scenes were printed on Metamark MD-WA, a textured self-adhesive vinyl. The material looks warm and inviting to the touch but is tough enough to stand a hard life. Dyson Signs’ installation teams has performed to the high standard required of a quality fit.

Cut and applied Metamark 7 Series Sign Vinyl has been used for the text elements depicting the various stations and points throughout the complex. It contrasts well to provide a legible and simple wayfinding scheme.

Dyson Signs has considerable experience in applying printed and cut graphics to glazed surfaces and to walls. In this case its work has transformed an interior space while retaining its open aspects and the sense of light that’s recognised as being important for human comfort in modern workspaces.
