Beauty In Bloom
Natalie Willetts is a Chesterfield based designer running her practice as an independent business with a mission to help other businesses with similar intent. Among her recent projects, another Chesterfield based independent, Bloom Beauty Room. Thanks to Natalie’s work, and some notable signs and graphics produced and installed by Sheffield’s Egg On Legs design, Bloom Beauty Room is now a business that’s well and truly on the map.
Natalie’s design takes a motif reflecting a floral basis and weaves it into the supporting typographic elements. The theme is established in the businesses facia signing and through interior continuations. The net effect is very clean, highly legible and individual.
Egg On Legs’ work involved figuring out an affordable and attractive way of providing a facia sign with a pronounced curve in its face. Simplicity itself led Marc Ward and the team to a curved panel of foamed PVC. Upon it, a Metamark MD5A-B panel of printed vinyl is applied. Despite the flat physical form, the subtly shaded graphics, and the physical curve, lift the sign into the realm of the dimensional. The graphic is laminated of course but using Metamark’s uber-tough floor MetaGuard FloorArt material. “We like the finish and it’s really durable,” said Marc Ward.
The treatment continues into a swing sign with the same design basis and other elements using the talents of Egg On Legs’ printers and Metamark materials.
If the superb ensemble for Bloom Beauty Room proves anything, it’s the value of design in distinguishing a business among others. Digital print and modern signmaking materials make it possible for sign and graphic producers to extend a service to the design fraternity that can turn more or less any vision into a physical deliverable. Egg On Legs has done just that and given two independent businesses momentum in the right direction.
