The University Of The Arts, London, is ranked second in the world for Art and Design and so attracts a student intake from the corners of the globe. Underpinning the University’s world-class reputation are six equally respected colleges, among them, Central Saint Martins.

One of the key programmes and courses offered by Central Saint Martins is Graphic Communication Design. Its output is what amounts to the next generation of practitioners who will enliven and develop the visual communications industries.

The courses’ role, to quote “…persistently question the cores of our disciplines, encouraging collision and exchange across boundaries to generate unexpected outcomes. We guide our students to discover new ways of thinking, making and doing. We give them the confidence to unearth ideas and formations that provoke and disturb accepted norms. We do this with many partners – from the local to the global, from industry to the public.”

The college’s reputation ensures that it attracts a high calibre student intake and its degree show, ‘Show Two.’ builds upon that. The event typically attracts as many as 30,000 visitors and showcases a phenomenal range of works.

One of education’s biggest obligations to the very people it educates is keeping pace with developments in the commercial realms it students will ultimately power and energise. Engaging with industry is therefore of critical importance. Metamark recently helped the college by contributing materials used in the construction of an exhibition strand promoting Central Saint Martins at the Show Two event.

Metamark Fluorescent materials, with the colour of choice being the Fluorescent Red, were used in the construction of an exhibit that would help, by showcasing degree work among other things, Central Saint Martins to accentuate the potential and calibre of the education it offers prospective degree students.

Metamark has always taken the view that the very fountainhead of all demand in the graphics industry is creativity. By sponsoring the development of the next generation of creatives, Metamark hopes that the resulting creative forces will energise and grow a bigger market for signs and graphics. The manmade landscape around us would be all the poorer without brands using the means of visual communications to promote and develop themselves. The latent creativity being developed at Central Saint Martins, may, who knows, create the sign and allied industry’s next big thing. Metamark will be there with the material needed to make it happen.
