Catching up with Tom Jackson on a racetrack’s not an easy thing to do - let’s do it here instead...
Metamark finds many parallels with its own mission and values embedded in the field of motorsports and that’s chief among the reasons we sponsor one of the UK’s most promising stars in the field - Tom Jackson. Tom’s very highly regarded and well-known in and among motorsports’ networks and his skills are in demand.
One of motorsports’ best known marques is Porsche. With well over 30,000 motorsports victories, Porsche could also claim to be the most successful. To keep its many formulas fuelled and opportunities flowing for talented drivers, Porsche operates the Porsche Motorsport Pyramid Great Britain. Among the series the ‘Pyramid comprises is the Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain.
The Porsche Sprint Challenge sends out, rain or shine, a grid-full of closely matched Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport cars, and lets razor-sharp driving skills do the rest. Tom’s successes to-date earned him a seat in a 718 in 2020 and, with over seven wins in the bag, it was only the capricious nature of the sport dealing him an accident that bumped him into second place overall in the series.
Upbeat as always, Tom later said that the move across to the 718 was an interesting one as he’d previously raced in the Carrera Cup, another part of the ‘Pyramid. He found the 718 Cayman GT4 to be fast and enjoyable to drive. Being a pro-category driver, Tom got to turn off all the car’s driver-aids and really let her go. For those into the numbers, the GT4’s flat-six engine obliges the skilled with 425HP when asked and terrifies those with experience.
2021 saw Tom at the wheel of a very different drive in the WEC or World Endurance Championship which is organised by the FIA. For any aspiring driver with the determination and talent to make it to the top, the WEC is seen as an essential rung in racing’s ladder only one step removed from Formula 1. The 2021 series was reduced to six rounds because of the pressures exerted by the pandemic but still exposed Tom to the required reading a driver on his journey needs.
After an incredibly close series of racing in 2022’s British Endurance Championship, Tom found himself with clear track ahead and reeled in a Championship Win for him and team mate Wayne Marrs driving a Mercedes GT3. They finished two points ahead of the Ferrari powered PNR performance cars team.
2023 has seen Tom behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT4 in the British Endurance Championship bringing in another podium finish in a series that delights its followers with its highly competitive driving, sound and spectacle.
Metamark thanks Tom for all he’s done for us in the seasons past and we wish him well for the season to come. It’s great to see our brand out there and among such great sportsmen - even if it is only a blur of printed MDC as it blasts past.
