TIS THE SEASON
Bristol based Voodoo DesignWork went straight for the Metamark MD3 when asked recently to produce a rather novel Advent Calendar for a client in the events and styling business. MD3 was the perfect choice for the job given the need for nothing more than short term durability but with an overarching requirement for quality.
The calendar itself was produced according to the client’s design. It was a biggie as advent calendar go, being about 2M by 1.5. The unit itself was fabricated by Voodoo’s production team from 10mm sheets of Foamex. One solid sheet was used for the unit’s backing, another was then cut with the apertures or ‘windows’ in the required spaces. The two sheets were then bonded.
The window details, they were printed on Metamark MD3 too, were adhered to thinner Foamex and were then positioned centrally in the ‘windows.’ The obscuring panels were again cut from 10mm Foamex using Voodoo’s Tekcel router. With the auto inlay feature enabled the windows fit the correspondent apertures perfectly.
The overall covering prints was printed on an HP Latex printer at Voodoo and was carefully applied to the unit and its window. HP Latex and Metamark MD-Class Materials are a proven combination and kept apace with their reputation for quality with this job too. The whole unit is free-standing and leans on yet more Foamex struts.
Short term application often drive a materials choice that recognises the need for economies. That can lead to tears when the material choses is of indeterminate quality and lacks a pedigree. In choosing Metamark MD-3 for this short term application, Voodoo was assured that its work would not face quality compromises in order to achieve the required durability. Neither did the production team have to resort to over-specifying material in order ‘to be sure.’
With many clients in retail, Voodoo often needs to produce print that needs to last for an advertising season and no longer. For all such applications, Metamark MD3 is the company’s go-to digital material choice. When quality counts, it’s the right product and it recognises that reputations are for the long-term.
