The pasty can lay claim to being the original fast food. Well over a hundred years ago, tin miners in Cornwall were taking something underground with them that would be unmistakable today. A pasty. It’s what amounts to a meal wrapped in pastry case. All its ingredients crimped within and ready to be eaten - ‘packaging’ and all.
The pasty has never gone out of fashion or favour. It’s fame and appeal has in fact spread. No need to go miles underground today to get one though. The West Cornwall Pasty Company has seen to that, and Stoke on Trent based Total Designs has helped.
The West Cornwall Pasty Company has made it a mission to get its flavourful products out there. It’s pods are popping up all over the place. You can’t miss them. If it’s not the aroma of a Steak and Tribute Ale masterpiece wafting out and across a service station car park that grabs you by the nose, it’ll be the sight the pods’ graphics that leaves you in no two minds and on a mission of your own to sample the goods. You won’t be disappointed. Despite the age of its legacy, The West of Cornwall Past Company’s products get the thumbs up from vegetarians and those who’d like to avoid gluten too.
Total Designs’ graphics get the thumbs up from Metamark. Leigh Walker and Total Designs team used Metamark MD5 to give the welcoming pasty-pods their very distinctive, branded personalities. The graphics work brilliantly. A pirate rendered on a field of yellow contrasts with the branding’s other colours to create a distinctive detail that’s instantly recognisable even at a great distance. Simulated weathered timber graining provides the contrast and the type used evokes a period era. It’s a powerful design.
Total Design’s printing and application skills shine out just as powerfully. The job is technically as challenging as any wrapping throws - perhaps more so as there’s no place to hide from panel alignment errors or less than perfect printing. The MD-Class Metamark MD5 has done its usual job of handling the ink and looking nothing less than an exercise in digital media excellence. Taken as a whole, this powerful brand finds its personality brilliantly projected and, if the happy looking customers often seen congregating at the pods are any indication, the consumer approves too.
Total Designs work brings the power of digital print to a focus with its work for The West Of Cornwall Pasty Company. Partly livery, partly Point of Sale. Wholly, brilliant.
